The Lake Isle is in the centre of the friendly market town of Uppingham, with easy parking, craft, antique and bookshops to browse in. Bedrooms have William Morris or Sanderson wallpaper, antiques and pretty fabrics. Seven have king-size beds and whirlpool baths. All come with thoughtful extras: a sherry decanter, bowl of fresh fruit and homemade biscuits. On two floors, the rooms are named after French wine growing regions: Dom Perignon, Champagne, Bordeaux and so on. Over the courtyard are three cottage suites with bedrooms upstairs and sitting rooms downstairs. On the first floor there is a comfortable lounge and private dining room for up to 16 people. The AA restaurant uses local game and produce wherever possible. There is plenty to do and see in the area, including Rockingham Castle, Rutland Water, Burghley House, Tolethorpe House and Barnsdale Gardens.
