Golf Hotels in The Midlands

This is a big area with a wide variety of courses. Starting in Lincolnshire in the North-East of the area, Woodhall Spa Golf Club is rated 45th in the world by Golf World. Near Stamford in the south, and handy for our Rutland hotels, are the flat parkland Burghley Park Golf Club, and, in a conservation area, Luffenham Heath.

Nottingham has five golf courses and another at Radcliffe-on-Trent. Perhaps the most popular is the 18-hole parkland Ruddington Grange, convenient for Langar Hall. Newark is another fine course to the Northeast.

In Leicestershire Stapleford Park has its own course and there are a further seven in Leicester, including Kirby Muxloe. Scalford Hall is near the recently extended 18-hole Melton Mowbray golf course.
Buxton in Derbyshire has two courses; Buxton & High Peak and the parkland Cavendish Golf Club, laid out by Augusta-designer Dr McEnzie. Both are convenient for Biggin Hall. 9-hole Glossop golf course is bang next door to the Wind in the Willows who can arrange tee-times there. Alfreton and Ashbourne both have 9-hole clubs, whilst Chesterfield, near Ringwood Hall Hotel, has Tapton Park (18), Chesterfield (18) and the 9-hole Stanedge Club.

Whittlebury Hall in Northamptonshire has adjacent 18 and 9-hole courses. Fawsley Hall is near Staverton Park (Daventry) which also has a practice range. The town of Northampton boasts six courses, of which the best known are Collingtree and Delapre, both having driving ranges. In the north of the county, is Kettering Golf Club, just south of the town centre.

In Herefordshire the undulating parkland Herefordshire Golf Club is handy for Castle House (6m), whereas Ross on Wye Golf Club, halfway between Ross and Newent, is good for both The Chase Hotel and the Three Choirs Vineyard. In Worcestershire 18-hole Kidderminster Golf Club , which has a practice ground, is near Brockencote Hall. The exceptionally scenic Worcestershire Golf Club is near both the Cottage in the Wood and Colwall Park.

In Shropshire the Bridgnorth Golf Club, fronting the river Severn is near The Old Vicarage. Nearer still is the rolling 18-hole Worfield Golf Club. The parkland 18-hole Ludlow Golf Club is hilly parkland close to the Clive Bar & Restaurant. Near Pen-Y-Dyffryn (Oswestry) is the upland Llanymynech Golf Club, whereas the Prince Rupert in Shrewsbury is near to both Hawkstone Park (and its follies) and the parkland Shrewsbury Golf Club. In Warwickshire the Little Aston & Sutton Coldfield Golf Club is hosting the English Amateur Championships 26-31 July 2010.
