Golf Hotels in Scotland
Scotland, the home of golf, boats no less than nine courses in the Golf World Top 100 Worldwide List. These are Turnberry (6th), Muirfield (8th) where the British Amateur Championships take place, Royal Dornoch (16th), Kingsbarns and St Andrews (18th), where, with Carnoustie, the Alfred Dunhill World Championships are being held.
The Old Course, St Andrews follows at 20th position. This is the venue of the British Open in 2010. The Fairmont Course is the venue for the Cleveland Golf/Srixon Scottish Seniors Open. In 30th place comes Loch Lomond, where Barclays Scottish Open takes place. The Old Course, Royal Troon comes in at 70th, Machrihanish 93rd and North Berwick 95th.
Handy courses for our hotels in Argyll and Bute are the Cowal and Innellan Golf Clubs in Dunoon, Machrihanish and Tarbert on the Mull of Kintyre and the Kyles of Bute Golf Club at Tighnabruaich.
Dumfries has three golf clubs: Powfoot, Dumfries & County and Southerness with an 18 hole course at Thornhill and a 9-hole one at Sanquar. Troon and Turnberry are just northwest of Dumfries & Galloway.
Perthshire has the world famous Gleneagles course, venue of the Johnnie Walker Championships in 2010. Also Aberfeldy, Auchterarder, three at Blairgowrie and the Callander Golf Club, handy for the Roman Camp Hotel. Near Crieff is the 9-hole St Fillans Golf Club. Strathtay also has a 9-hole course.
In the Highlands Royal Dornoch, Muir of Ord and Strathpeffer are handy for Coul House; Fort Augustus is the nearest course to Fort William. Skye has the 9-hole Sconser in the south of the island, whereas Gairloch’s 9-hole links course is convenient for Pool House.
