The Westleton Crown is one of a new breed of stylish gastro inns. During the past two years it has been transformed into a smart 25-room hotel, just two miles off the A12 between Ipswich and Lowestoft. Rooms are divided into three categories: good, better and best. In reality all are excellent with luxurious Egyptian bed linen, duck down duvets and pillows, fluffy towels and Fired Earth bath and shower rooms with good water pressure. Cuisine has been awarded two AA rosettes and dining can either be in the bar/parlour area in front of a roaring log fire, in the spacious dining room or in the conservatory – but book early as the Crown’s reputation is spreading rapidly. The inn almost borders the Minsmere RSPB reserve and there are numerous walks over the heath behind the building – good exercise for dogs and a good way to work up an appetite for the delicious food. There is also a pretty terraced garden.
