The Swan Hotel

The Swan at Lavenham is one of England’s oldest inns, dating back to 1425. It provides some of Suffolk’s most elegant accommodation - no wonder Claudia Schiffer spent the first night of her honeymoon here! Medieval wall paintings were uncovered some years ago and formed an influence on the new decorative style. Natural fabrics, including silk curtains and bedspreads, and wool rich upholstery and carpets, befitting Lavenham’s heritage have been used throughout. All 46 bedrooms are enchantingly furnished with linen sheets, feather pillows and rich fabrics. The most striking room is the Constable Suite, a mezzanine retreat for that away-from-it-all break. In the Gallery Restaurant or in the less formal brasserie garden lounge, chefs work hard with local suppliers to produce immensely favoured, yet unpretentious fare. Lavenham has one of the most famous Suffolk churches and other beautifully preserved half-timbered buildings.
