The Hoste Arms has had a chequered history, having been variously a Court Assizes, an auction house and a brothel. When Paul Whittome bought it in 1989 his aim was to restore it to be one of the finest inns in England. Combining his love of people, good food and drink, music and art, he has succeeded admirably and has won many awards. Recently he has added a conference suite with the latest electronic aids, and bedrooms in a new Zulu wing. He is well supported by managing director Emma Tagg and a dedicated staff. Food and wine are central to the Hoste experience. The bar is a convivial spot popular with visitors and locals alike; the dining areas are divided into several cosy spaces. The delicious menu has Oriental and European influences and uses fresh local produce, the seafood being particularly favoured. The wine list features over 200 bins at affordable prices. Burnham Market itself is the hub of this area of outstanding natural beauty and boasts over 40 privately run shops.
