Activities in the Cotswolds
Unsurprisingly, given it is an area of such natural beauty, activities in the Cotswolds focus largely on outdoor pursuits.
Cycling, horse riding and golf are all popular activities in the region – but a huge number of visitors come to the Cotswolds each year simply to walk.
Indeed, there are more than 3,000 miles of public footpath in the Cotswolds, making it one of the finest places in Britain to put on your hiking boots and stretch your legs. Participants are rewarded with stunning views of lush green English countryside, with idyllic, chocolate-box villages providing the perfect stop off for a pub lunch.
Of all activities in the Cotswolds, the Cotswold Way walk is perhaps the best known. The walk wends its way from the north of the region (Chipping Campden) all the way down to Bath – a 100 mile hike in total. That can of course be broken up into much more manageable sections, while those going the whole distance would be advised to take advantage of some of the delightful hotels in the Cotswolds along the way.
And while the vast open areas of the region are perfect for walking, they have also given rise to a number of more adrenalin pumping activities. Hot air ballooning offers a great way to see the rolling hills, while gliding and even sky diving are available for the thrill-seeking visitor.
Largely unspoilt though, the Cotswolds manages to retain a historical feel to it, particularly in the delightful villages dotted around the area. As a result, if you’re looking for more traditional activities in the Cotswolds – things like stone walling, wood turning, pottery or feltmaking – you’ll find them in abundance.
Of course, there are also countless visitor attractions and historical cities such as Bath and Oxford within easy reach, so the Cotswolds really does offer something for everybody. For more things to do, check out our guide to attractions in the Cotswolds.
