Jersey LavenderJersey lavender is without a doubt the most fragrant and visually stunning attraction on Jersey. Imagine…. standing in field surrounded by a rows and rows of purple lavender gently swaying in the breeze. Imaging the heady fragrance mixed with the freshness of the Jersey sea air…….heaven!

The Jersey Lavender Farm was started as a family business in 1983 and since then has grown to one of the most popular attractions for visitors to the Island. A visit to the working farm gives you an opportunity to forget the worries of the moment and relax in the aroma therapeutic air. There are over 9 acres of fields planted up with different varieties of lavender and during the summer months they come into full flower displaying an incredible range of purple hues. Unfortunately, just when the lavender is at the peak of perfection, it is then hand harvested – a process known locally as the lavandage - and carried off to the purpose built distillery. There, steam is used to extract the precious lavender essential oil which is carefully stored away and matured. Some of the lavender is also dried in the Jersey sunshine and the dried flowers used to make lavender bags, and at other times of the year: May, June, and September, other herbs such as Rosemary, Bay and Eucalyptus are distilled for their essential oils.

After maturing the lavender essential is sold both as an aromatherapy oil or it is used as the vital ingredient in the famous range of attractively packaged Jersey Lavender toiletries. Many of these products are created, and packaged on the farm. During your visit you can see all these processes, there is a video that explains the farm work through out the year and there is always someone on hand to answer your questions.

To complete your visit, and to truly savour the holiday mood, the farm is set around beautiful gardens. There is a dovecote, an old gypsy caravan, and chickens and their chicks run wild. There is a National Collection of Lavenders, a collection of Bamboos and herb beds. There is also the farm shop and tearoom. The shop sells the wonderful range of products created on the farm and a wide range of other gifts. The tearoom serves up teas, coffees, light lunches and a delicious range of home baked cakes – including one containing lavender!

Certainly, a visit to the Lavender Farm is a unique experience – one where the fragrant and visual memory will remain with you for many years to come.
