Britain’s most southerly islands lie just 14 miles off the French coast but have not been owned by France since the days of William the Conqueror. Today they provide an essence of France whilst staying out of the eurozone. Guernsey has a strong link with fishing whilst Jersey is also a cosmopolitan financial centre. Sark and Herm are car-free zones.
