Welcome to the 78th edition of Signpost
The definitive UK hotel directory listing the finest hotels in Great Britain.
Published since 1935, the Signpost Guide is the UK’s longest running annual guide to the country’s premier hotels. In compiling the guide we use our knowledge and experience to select only the best quality hotels offering the perfect mix of individuality, style and atmosphere. Signpost inspectors check every single hotel personally and our standards remain second to none. With exceptional style, good cuisine, value for money, a personal welcome and the very best in guest care all prerequisites for joining the Signpost Selected Premier Hotels collection, you can rest assured of a delightful stay.
Whether you are looking for luxury country house hotels set in beautiful grounds, small hotels with log fires and cosy bedrooms deep in the heart of quiet country villages or smart townhouse hotels with 21st century facilities, Signpost has something for all tastes. Member hotels are usually small and proprietor-run and most have lots to see and do nearby too. We stay at each hotel at least once in every three years, or we sample the restaurant and make a thorough inspection, so that whichever Signpost hotel you choose, you can be confident that it meets the highest standards.

How we select hotels
In considering candidates for inclusion in the Signpost hotel guide our inspectors look for hotels with a distinctive ambience - places that they have enjoyed staying at themselves and which provide the ideal venue for weekend or longer hotel breaks. That's why you will not find any run-of-the mill hotels in this guide, or hotels which are just part of a large national chain.
Our inspectors set the highest standards and expect every one of our luxury hotels in the UK to live up to them. We demand fine cuisine, using the best fresh produce. Bedrooms should be furnished with style and have all the comforts you need away from home. The hotel should be located in an interesting area, with plenty of opportunity for sport and leisure. Above all hotels should be welcoming, places you want to return to again and again.
Selected premier hotels
Each entry has 3 colour pictures of the hotel. Alongside is a fully detailed description which answers all your questions about bedrooms, restaurant, cuisine, and the range of shopping, sports and leisure facilities in the area.
